Objective

The objective was to understand the current and future potential of ADAS adoption in India by assessing consumer preferences, awareness, technology requirements, affordability, road and infrastructure constraints, dealer readiness, regulatory developments, aftermarket opportunities, localization needs, and the wider ADAS ecosystem. The study also aimed to identify which safety features matter most to consumers and what OEMs and ecosystem participants need to address to improve adoption across different customer segments.

Business Challenge

ADAS adoption in India remained limited despite growing consumer interest in vehicle safety. Premium pricing, uneven road conditions, poor lane markings, limited consumer understanding, and varying technology performance in Indian driving environments restricted wider adoption. At the same time, dealers and aftermarket participants faced compatibility, calibration, technician-training, and service-knowledge challenges. OEMs therefore needed to balance feature demand with affordability, localization, infrastructure readiness, and after-sales capability.

How We Did It

A mixed-method research program was conducted combining a structured survey of 250 consumers with stakeholder and ecosystem interviews. Respondents were analysed across age, gender, education, income, vehicle characteristics, and ADAS usage. 6WSurveyIQ/Kobo was used for primary data collection and SQL for structured respondent and stakeholder data management. Python was used for statistical analysis, segmentation, predictive modelling, and machine-learning techniques including Chi-square analysis, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, PCA, and K-Mode Clustering. Power BI was used to visualize demographic patterns, feature preferences, adoption behaviour, and differences between consumer groups.

Key Findings

• Overall ADAS penetration remained relatively low despite strong interest in safety technologies.• AEB, Blind Spot Detection, and Forward Collision Warning emerged among the most preferred features.• Higher education and awareness levels were associated with stronger ADAS adoption.• Affordability, road infrastructure, and limited understanding of ADAS functionality were major adoption barriers.• Modular and selectively priced ADAS packages represented an important opportunity for OEMs.• Middle-aged and specific demographic/customer groups emerged as attractive target segments.• Dealers faced challenges related to compatibility, calibration, technical knowledge, and servicing.• India-specific calibration, adjustable sensitivity, localization, and technician training were important for reliable deployment.• Aftermarket participation and partnerships with technology and service providers could support long-term scale-up.

Findings

The study highlighted a clear gap between consumer interest in safety features and actual ADAS adoption. Consumers valued core safety technologies, but adoption depended heavily on whether the systems were affordable, easy to understand, and reliable under Indian road and traffic conditions. Predictive modelling and customer segmentation helped identify the demographic, behavioural, and vehicle-related factors influencing adoption rather than relying only on descriptive survey results. The combined consumer, dealer, technology, and ecosystem assessment showed that wider ADAS adoption would require not only better products, but also localized calibration, stronger service capabilities, consumer education, technician training, appropriate pricing, and greater ecosystem coordination.

Business Impact

The study provided a practical roadmap for ADAS market development in India. The findings supported feature prioritization around AEB, FCW, Blind Spot Detection and other high-interest safety technologies, while identifying opportunities for modular product packages and more accessible pricing. Consumer segmentation helped improve target-customer selection and communication strategies, while dealer findings supported technician training, calibration infrastructure, and after-sales planning. The research also informed localization, aftermarket entry, partnership development, consumer education, and product-launch strategies, helping create a stronger pathway for wider ADAS adoption and long-term market-share growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services does 6W Strategy offer?
We run a 13-stage engagement that starts with market research and ends with partner and distributor development. In between, that covers customer behavior, brand and sales strategy, data analytics, corporate strategy, risk, sustainability and implementation — the full sequence is laid out in the Services Cluster above.
Can we engage 6W Strategy for a single stage instead of the full cluster?
Yes — each of the 13 stages can be commissioned on its own or as part of the full cluster, whichever fits where you are right now.
What analytical models does 6W Strategy use?
We draw on 28 models across 8 categories. The ones we reach for most are Conjoint Analysis, MaxDiff, TAM-SAM-SOM modeling, Porter's Five Forces, the Kano Model and K-Means Clustering — the full library is in the Analytical Models panel.
What data sources back up 6W Strategy's research?
A mix of primary interviews through our 6WForum expert panel, qualitative and quantitative surveys, shipment-level trade data, retail audit data, and our own proprietary databases.
Which industries does 6W Strategy work across?
Thirteen so far, including Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Telecom, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals. The full list is in the Industries strip above — and we're happy to discuss others even without a published case study yet.
What proprietary platforms does 6W Strategy use?
6WForum for expert insights, 6WSurveyIQ for research and consumer intelligence, 6WForecastIQ for forecasting, and 6WExportGTM for trade and export intelligence — each one is in the Our Platforms panel.
