India currently has over 1.5 million operational POS terminals which have been deployed in various end user markets such as retail outlets, hotels, restaurants & cafes, Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs), petrol pumps, hospitals, government offices, etc. This huge applicability of POS terminals across various sectors along with recent demonetization (occurred in the last quarter of 2016) & ensuing cash deficit led to exponential increase in demand for POS terminals in the country. RBI’s initiative towards proliferation of card acceptance infrastructure, schemes for financial inclusion of rural masses and increasing domestic manufacturing to further drive the market of POS in India and would provide ample opportunities to foreign and domestic players.
