New Delhi, India – 6Wresearch, a leading provider of market research and strategic consulting services, has successfully concluded a Behavioural Influence and Messaging Effectiveness Assessment for a leading energy company to gauge the effect of educational sustainability programs on awareness about rooftop solar, household decision-making processes, and future purchase intent.
With the adoption of rooftop solar gaining traction in India, there have been increased investments by organizations in education-based awareness programs to increase consumer adoption. Such programs can be effective only if they influence consumer behaviour and purchase decisions, not just raise awareness about the product among consumers. Taking into account this situation, the client partnered with 6Wresearch to evaluate the effectiveness of its Eco-Crew educational program and discover ways to improve their communication strategy in the future.
To address this, 6Wresearch designed a research methodology that captured views from both parents and school-going children so as to holistically understand the effect of education messaging on household decision-making. A total of 240 structured interviews were conducted across key markets of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with 120 parents and 120 children using a hybrid mix of face-to-face and telephonic surveys. The study measured awareness levels, message recall, effectiveness of communication, purchase intent and the role of children as indirect influencers of household solar adoption decisions.
In addition to the traditional methods of analyzing survey data, 6Wresearch made use of several other advanced statistical and predictive analytics methods such as Hypothesis Testing, Correlation Analysis, K-Means Clustering, Logistic Regression, Random Forest Classification, SHAP Analysis, Attribute Analysis, and Thematic Analysis to analyze the major behavioural, demographic and financial factors affecting the decision-making process of the respondents. The use of such sophisticated analysis methods helped the client to understand the underlying reasons behind certain trends and patterns discovered during the research.
Although the awareness level of the respondents related to the availability of solar roof solutions is quite high among both parents and children, the next growth opportunity lies in increasing the number of purchases. Thus, government incentives, long-term energy savings, and brand credibility turned out to be the major drivers encouraging people to make purchases, while financing concerns and the need for trusted information continued to delay conversion. In addition, school-based sustainability campaigns were found to promote children discussing solar roof solutions with their parents, indicating the important role of educational programs in shaping long-term consumer behavior.
In addition, the assessment found that there are significant differences in the effectiveness of communication among various audiences. Parents were more receptive to rational messaging related to financial gains and government subsidies, while children were more inclined to messages with an environmental angle, interactivity, and sustainability-related stories. This finding showed the importance of creating audience-specific communication strategies that combine emotional engagement with financial value propositions.
The assessment also pointed to regional variations in awareness, campaign recall and purchase intent, highlighting the importance of localized versus generic communication. 6Wresearch used measurement of message efficacy, behavior change, media consumption patterns, and consumer segmentation to develop a strategy to optimize future educational campaigns, improve message architecture and boost the overall impact of rooftop solar awareness campaigns.
The research findings indicate that 6Wresearch has recommended a change in approach from awareness-based communication to conversion-based engagement with an emphasis on financial communication, simple messaging around government subsidies, more interactive educational elements, children as sustainability ambassadors in their homes, and localized communication approaches in accordance with the level of development in the market and the readiness of consumers.
This case study exemplifies 6Wresearch’s capabilities in consumer behavior research, marketing effectiveness evaluation, behavioral science, communication strategy design, purchase journey mapping, brand equity assessment, advanced data analytics, and strategic advisory services. The company blends thorough field operations with advanced analytical techniques to consistently help organizations turn consumer insights into practical business strategies that spur tangible growth and support data-driven decisions.
